The Great Grid Upgrade (GGUP)
National Grid
The Great Grid Update is one of the UK’s most ambitious infrastructure projects—an essential initiative supporting the transition to clean energy by connecting 50GW of offshore wind to the national electricity network by 2030. With a multibillion-pound investment behind it, the project is a cornerstone of the UK’s strategy to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and secure a more sustainable future.
Commissioned by Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, we were tasked with developing a cohesive and visually engaging suite of design materials to support the project’s communication and bid efforts. Drawing inspiration from themes of nature, renewable energy, and clean design, we developed a series of detailed infographics to present complex information in a clear and captivating way.
Our work included a central project progression infographic—tracing the journey from early planning through to delivery—as well as a technically detailed cross-section infographic of the UK’s energy infrastructure. These were complemented by a distinctive set of custom illustrations and icons inspired by elements such as wind turbines, cable routes, and natural landscapes.

In addition to the graphic elements, we designed a robust bid document template and Word-based internal templates, ensuring consistency, clarity, and adaptability across all communication formats.
The result is a cohesive visual language that not only enhances understanding of The Great Grid Update’s scope and impact but also reflects the visionary, future-facing ethos of the project. Our work helped Morgan Sindall Infrastructure present their proposal with clarity and confidence—visually aligning with the UK’s renewable energy ambitions.
